Can I Visit Hermosa Beach at This Time?

Can I Visit Hermosa Beach at This Time?

With more than two miles of sandy shoreline, Hermosa Beach is a popular summer destination in the city that shares its name with this sprawling beach. Home to numerous special events and around 100,000 beachgoers on busy summer weekends, it's easy to see why this is such a popular go-to spot for locals and visitors alike. The good news is Hermosa Beach is once again open for the summer of 2021. Here's what you need to keep in mind when coming to Hermosa Beach.

Many Popular Beach Activities Are Permitted

If you have your heart set on swimming this summer at Hermosa Beach, just grab your swimsuit, and you'll be good to go. This is just one of several popular beach activities you can once again enjoy at Hermosa Beach. According to the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches & Harbors, ocean activities you and your family are now welcome to enjoy at Hermosa Beach as of mid-June 2021 include:

• Swimming

• Kayaking

• Paddleboarding

• Bodysurfing and board surfing

If you don’t want to have to carry your own gear to Hermosa Beach, boogie board rental is available, and you can also rent everything from bikes to beach chairs and umbrellas one you get to the beach.

Sports-Related Activities Are Generally Allowed

For times when you're not in the mood to swim or catch a wave, Hermosa Beach is open for sports-related activities in the summer of 2021. This list includes beach volleyball and pretty much any other sports that would normally take place at the beach, as long as there's room.

The Beach Is Open for Recreation & Exercise

Hermosa Beach has plenty of room for other non-water-related activities, too. For recreation and exercise, you're once again free to walk, run, and use any nearby pathways that are publicly accessible. Many nearby hiking and biking trails are also open again if you're looking for more beach-adjacent exercise and recreation options.

Grab the Sunscreen for a Day of Relaxing on the Beach

You don't have to be active in or out of the water when visiting Hermosa Beach. You can merely enjoy a pleasant day of relaxation while basking in the sun's rays. Just remember to bring some sunscreen—an SPF of at least 30 is the general recommendation. You're also permitted to simply sit or lie on the sand. And, yes, sandcastle building is okay, too.

Pack Up Some Goodies for a Picnic

As long as you can find sufficient space, you can have a picnic at Hermosa Beach or in any of the nearby areas where picnicking is permitted. On a related note, Valley Park, Noble Park, South Park, and Sea View Park are other nearby picnic spots you're also welcome to explore in the Hermosa Beach area.

What's Still Not Permitted as of June 2021

Large events are still not permitted at Hermosa Beach and other beaches in Los Angeles County. Therefore, some of the events typically held at Hermosa Beach may be limited, restricted, canceled, or moved to other locations. Check in advance of your trip to see what's going on with any scheduled events in the area. Some beach access points may still be closed as well.
